Byres Road and Lanes to join communities across the world to celebrate Make Music Day on 21 June
Thousands of free in person and online events will take place up and down the country on 21 June to mark this year’s Make Music Day – the world’s largest, annual celebration of music. For the second year running, Visit West End have enlisted some of the best music venues in the West End to put on some free to attend performances throughout the day.

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh is kicking off the summer in style with its exclusive series of free rooftop events – Sunset Sessions. Hosted on the hotel’s stunning rooftop terrace that boasts unbeatable views of the city’s Old Town and Edinburgh Castle, the spectacular events will showcase Scottish musical talent, including Beth Karp and Kohla, who will bring the ultimate summer ambience as the sun sets over Edinburgh’s iconic skyline.
Scots language awards set to sparkle after braw spell for the language
The Scots Language Awards will make its much-anticipated return this autumn when Johnstone Town Hall will host the very best of Scots language and culture on Saturday 16th September. The awards, which were first started in 2019, celebrate the importance of Scots language within arts and culture but also within daily life, education, and business. Tying in with ‘Gie’s a Scots Poem Day’, organised by Hands up for Trad in partnership with The National Poetry Library, today’s launch encourages people to celebrate the Scots leid by sharing their favourite Scots poem online.

Festival Republic offers work placements to University of Gloucestershire
Live Nation-owned Festival Republic has partnered with the University of Gloucestershire to provide more than 300 students with access to voluntary work placement roles in the areas of event sustainability and accessibility. In 2024, Festival Republic will also provide a nine-month paid internship as a sustainability assistant, based at the company’s London headquarters and festival sites, to a University of Gloucestershire student from within its Music and Sound degree programme.
